Indoor League Results

Presentations to the winners of Archers of Warrnambool Summer Indoor League was made at the Sports Target Complex, Duram Park on Tuesday 10th March. Current Compound Shooter Of The Year, Elliot Riley, continued on his winning way by defeating club captain Dave Reid on a count back. Riley, who averaged 291 out of 300 over the season easily accounted for Reid to take out the A Grade medal with Daniel Baker a close third.

In the B Grade division, Alex Nesic shooting his Mathews Chill-X compound bow took the honours with 80 points and was undefeated across all rounds.

The C Grade division was the most hotly contested with Denise Burrell victorious over Chris Densley, followed by Brendan Hyland and Jim Burrell.

Kai Van Kempton was the best of the Juniors, cementing his place as one of Archers of Warrnambool’s top junior compound archers.

The Autumn Indoor League commences Friday 13th March at 8pm with practice from 6pm and all Archery Australia, 3D and Australian Bowhunters Association members aremost welcome. All current club members are also encouraged to compete in this very enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere.

Summer Indoor League – Final Round

The final rounds of the Archers of Warrnambool Summer Indoor league was held at the indoor range at Duram Park, Friday 28/2/2020
Even though Elliot Riley was unavailable to shoot, he still had enough points accumulated to win the A grade division on a count back from Club Captain Dave Reid, Both shooters were on 76 points at the end of the final round, however “Splinter” Riley finished with an average of 288, easily accounting for Reid.

B Grade was taken out by Alex Nesic on 80 points, an easy win for Lex as he was the only shooter in the B grade division. 😉😎😀

The C grade division was a closely fought contest that saw many archers shoot multiple personal bests. Chris Densley was particularly impressive, improving his PB by over 100 points over the course of the competition. It wasn’t enough however to overtake Denise Burrell who went into the final rounds with an unassailable lead.

Burrell, shooting her sighted recurve bow was the highest scorer across all divisions.

Special mention must be made of young cub, Kai Van Kempton, who made great progress shooting his new compound bow and took out the junior division.

Congratulations to all shooters who competed in the Summer league. The Autumn Indoor League starts on Friday March 13 and all members of AA, ABA or 3DAAA are welcome to join in this great comp.

Summer Indoor League 2020

Rounds 5 and 6 of Archers of Warrnambool summer indoor league was postponed for 1 week and held Friday 31st January. It appears the delay may have had a negative effect on our A grade shooters because many archers shot well below their average. Elliot “The Splinter” Riley did manage to equal his personal best of 294, but followed it up with a 279. This is well below par for AoW’s 2019 Compound Shooter of the year. Both Daniel Baker and club captain Dave Reid were also off their game, with “Bakes” shooting 279 and 284 and Dave “Chopper” Reid posting 251 and 268.

Fortunately the traditional archers were able to show how it’s done. Brendan Hyland and Chris Densley shot personal best scores of 118 and 84 respectively. Chris Nesic, shooting compound, also bettered his previous best with a 255. His new Tank 23 arrows from Urban Archery are definitely doing the trick. Well done Lex!

Final scores were;
Elliot Riley – 294* – 273
Daniel Baker – 288* – 279
Dave Reid – 271 – 251
Alex Nesic -236 – 255*
Denise Burrell – 165 – 161
Brendan Hyland – 118* – 80
Chris Densley – 84* – 76

Awards Presentation 2019

The end of year trophies were presented at the Archers of Warrnambool Christmas barbecue held Saturday 21st of December at Duram Park, Allansford.

The awards for best male and female junior archers went to Riley Austin and Bethany Medwin, with Elliot Riley and Paul Minifie taking out best compound and best recurve archer respectively.

Dave Reid presented the Club Captain’s Award for most improved archer of the year, which was a closely contested prize with the laurels to Michael Medwin who improved his scores over the year to finish with a PB of 271. A great achievement for Michael when you take into account that less than six months ago he was shooting scores of around 60.

This year was the first year that the John Goodwin Memorial Award was given to the most outstanding club member as decided by the president of the club. This perpetual shield is in memory of John Goodwin, the founder of Archers of Warrnambool, and the man who worked tirelessly to keep the club alive. Sadly John passed away a few years ago. The first recipient of this honour was Club Captain Dave Reid. Reid, a member of the trust maintenance committee, has spent countless hours working to build the club’s profile, build targets for the club and performing many other tasks around the club, including mowing the outdoor range every week.
