Spring Indoor 2019 Rnd 1 & Rnd 2

Archers of Warrnambool made history tonight, by running round 1 and round 2 of it’s very first indoor league. Comprising 2 rounds of 30 arrows, Australian Indoor 18m, 12 archers took part in the first of many events at this ever strengthening club.
Nine local members were joined by 3 hardy shooters from Greater Hamilton Archery. Brendan and Deb Jones and Marshall Mott all made the 70 minutes journey to Allansford to help foster greater relationships with other archery clubs around the Western Victoria / SE Sth Australia region.

GHA lived up to their reputation as one of the strongest clubs in the region by posting competitive scores in all three divisions.
GHA’s Brendan Jones was the standout archer on the night, posting scores of 291 and 292, with  our own Elliot “the Hammer” Riley a very close second.

The Hammer was his usual consistent self with two rounds of 289. Daniel Baker, (265 & 272) and Dave Reid (263 & 270) made up the final two archers in the A grade division.

In B Grade, our own Jesse Sellens (compound) leads the way, closely followed by GHA’s Marshall Mott (compound) and Deb Jones (barebow recurve), with Doctor Charlotte (recurve) hot on their heels.

In front of the C Grade  division is Chelsea Theobald-Daly shooting her Hoyt hunting bow with Denise Burrell and Gerry Mahony with their sighted recurves making up second and third place respectively and Paul Ryan in fourth with his barebow recurve.

Special mention needs to be made of Paul, who tonight was shooting a bow for only the third time in his life. He accounted for himself well, posting 2 respectable scores given his level of experience. If he continues to improve at his current level, he will be a very competitive archer within a relatively short time. Well done Paul, keep at it mate, you’re doing well.

Archer Division Rnd 1 Rnd 2
Brendan Jones A Grade 291 292

Club Shoot 03-08-2019

The future of the club was on display today with a huge contingent of young archers at our Come and Try session today.

We had over 20 shooters all starting out or returning from last week. We had so many in fact that we almost ran out of bows! Of the 20 new shooters, only 3 were adults, with the remaining 17 all aged between 8 and 13 years old. Hopefully we can engage those young shooters enough to get hooked on archery and maybe then drag mum and dad  into the sport too. We certainly have plenty of father and son combinations at AoW as well as mums and daughters.
Everyone seemed to have a good time at our newly refurbished indoor range, and with super coach Mike Clark absent today, the coaching duties fell on the shoulders of Dave Reid to try to teach what he is unable to do himself. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Dave couldn’t hit water if he was standing in the middle of a lake using a recurve bow, he’s absolutely hopeless.
Having said that, the session went off without a hitch, no one was injured, and all stated that they would be back again next week.

So if you’re thinking about giving archery a go, come along to the Come and Try session next Saturday August 10 at the new starting time of 11am

Spring Indoor League Lead Up

Only a small turn out for Archers of Warnambool’s first Friday night shoot, a lead up to the club’s first Spring Indoor League starting on September 6th. Elliott was his usual consistent self, with two rounds in the high 280s, while Charlotte, shooting her first Australian Indoor Round, manage two PBs on the one night. Congratulations Charlotte, your improvement has been astounding! Mostly due to your great coach of course. πŸ˜†πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†πŸ˜Ž

Our next Indoor League shoot is August 17th and is a great opportunity to get in some extra practice before the League starts in September. Doors open at 6pm, Hope to see you there!

New indoor League

As a part of our commitment to provide the best possible value for your membership, we are excited to announce that our indoor league will commence in September!

Shooting will be the second and fourth Friday of every month with practice starting at 6pm at our newly refurbished indoor range, Duram Park, 200 Buckley’s rd, Allansford.

The indoor league will start at 8pm sharp and will comprise either 1 or 2 loosely interpreted πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚(❁´◑`❁) Australian 18m Rounds (depending on time constraints) and scores will be based on a handicap and division system.

Each competition will run for 3 months and shooters will be awarded points based on attendance, performance and improvement.

All Club members are encouraged to come along and participate, regardless of your level of expertise. Competition at club level is an exiting and fun way to improve your shooting and builds camaraderie within the club.

All neighbouring club members all also invited to cross participate in this event.

We hope to see you all there!!
